Vodafone has launched its project to test 5G technologies in Milan. The operator will be working with 28 partners on the EUR 90 million trial.
The network will cover 80 % of the city and surrounding metropolitan areas by the end of 2018 and 100 % percent by 2019. The plan is to make Milan one of the forerunners in 5G in Europe. The trial will have over forty projects in the areas of health, security, energy, transport, education and entertainment. Partners include players like Milan Technical University, Nokia, Qualcomm, Huawei, IBM, FCA, retail chain Esselunga, State Railways, Pirelli, Siemens, the Italian Red Cross and local transport authorities.
