The Italian market offers interesting opportunities for vendors of software solutions and technology products. However, many Finnish companies are suspicious of the country. Many have been here on holiday, not so many have done business here. Italy is considered a difficult market, and cultural differences and language issues might make you doubtful. The political situation in Italy may also worry you.

Italy is the third largest  economy in the euro zone and the eighth largest in the world. It is also Europe's second largest manufacturing country. Can you afford not to consider it as a target market?

The Italian industrial strategy aims to increase investments in innovation, to reform the industry and to accelerate the digitalisation of the economy. This is reflected in concrete business opportunities in many areas: Retail and banks, for example, are investing heavily in digitalisation, and intelligent traffic solutions are being built in major cities and motorways. Healthcare and manufacturing industry are also being digitized rapidly.

Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of Italian industry, and the size of the company is below the EU average. Here, even the small ones are successful in networking and can do business with big customers. This is good news for Finnish companies. in many other markets, you might have difficulties in getting to meet big players.

And what about politics? Italian politics includes loud, aggressive conversations and often quite unrealistic promises. Speeches and deeds do not necessarily go hand in hand, but you should not be frightened. Companies are continuing their activities and investments, despite of whoever is governing in Rome.
